Seasons

Summer:

Our summers are warm with June/July being the hottest period.  Tempatures peak near 100 degrees during the day and as low as the mid 60's at night.  This temparture change has a nice affect on our vineyard.  Our most enjoyable time of the summer is the July/August time where monsson flow brings a much needed rain period to our rolling grasslands.  Tempatures cool off, maybe low 90's and low 60's during this period and the grasslands turn into a beautiful golf course backdrop to our winery and vineyard.  We can see as much as 15 inches of rain during the monsoon season.  It's truly a beautiful setting.

Fall:

Our falls are mild but usually so busy, we don't get to enjoy it much.  We are usually harvesting grapes beginning in September and if the frost holds out, can be harvesting in Novemeber.  Temps usually get down into the high twenties during the end of October and the first of November.  The frost damages the petioles and leaves enought that grapes not harvested will be pulled reguardless if they are not perfectly ripe.  Tempatures range from mid 80's to low 30's on a regular basis.

Winter:

Winter's are mild to chilly.  Daily temps can peak in the 60's and we have seen single digits for our lows.  It's not uncommon to see a little snow during January and February.  Our vines are dormate during this period and we are usually in the winery knocking out projects that are set aside during the growing and harvesting seasons.

Spring:

Spring is usually described as windy.  Twenty MPH winds are not uncommon for several days in a row.  Not actually the weather you want when prepping the vines for the next season.  Our pruning occurs in late March and early April.  We start seeing temps in the 70's and the vines begin budding around mid to late April.  April and May is always a cautious time watching for frost.  We see tempatures ranging from low 80's to mid 30's.
